At Mattressmax, we believe it’s our privilege to support marginal communities.
Business people are an integral part of the communities they serve. In our case, that includes a wide surrounding area. We are from Marietta, but we’ve made many friends on both sides of the river during our 16 years in business. In our first year of business, we received over 100 requests for donations from various organizations and individuals. Financially speaking, it was not possible to honor them all, so we made the decision to focus on people who are in greatest need of a hand up.
We are proud to support the following organizations:
Eve, Inc, is a domestic violence shelter. Since 2007, we have participated in the Eve Auction. Many of those years, we hauled a queen or king set to be displayed in the Lafayette Hotel ballroom. John and I are getting a bit old to be dismantling mattresses at midnight, so in the past few years, we have donated gift certificates, sheets, and pillows. The Eve Auction is Eve’s largest annual fundraiser, and the money generated is critical for matching funds for the grants that keep them solvent.
Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley
We truly love this organization and believe in its mission of helping people build their own homes. We have participated in auctions as well as direct support. When we remove mattresses that are in pristine condition, we donate those to Habitat, where they have a ‘hot box’ to sterilize used bedding. Those mattresses are then sold in their Habitat Restore location across the street from us, and the funds generated go to homebuilding.
St. Vincent de Paul
This is a Catholic organization dedicated to developing relationships and providing help to the needy among us. The opiate crisis has hit our area extremely hard, and addiction and homelessness are huge problems. Unfortunately, children in those situations are the ones who are most affected in terms of their life development. We provide twin mattresses at cost and deliver them to the St. Vincent warehouse. We also donate serviceable used mattresses for adults.
Local Arts
Many of the organizations keeping the Arts alive in our Valley were financially devastated during Covid. We donated to The Smoot Theater, The People’s Bank Theater, The WV Symphony at Parkersburg, and most recently The Actor’s Guild.
